B.C. MOVES TO SUPPORT WINE AND HOSPITALITY INDUSTRIES

VICTORIA – The Province is announcing two new initiatives to support B.C.’s wine and hospitality industries.

The first is designed to enhance sales of B.C. wine at government liquor stores.

Wineries will receive a greater percentage of the retail price of Vintners Quality Alliance (VQA) wine sold through government liquor stores. This will encourage more wineries to sell their VQA wines in government liquor stores. VQA is a wine standard for 100 per cent B.C. grape wines established and maintained by the B.C. Wine Institute.

The second increases the licensee retail store discount rate from 12 to 13 per cent. This rate represents the discount private liquor stores receive when they purchase products from the Liquor Distribution Branch, breweries or wineries. This increase follows through on commitments to the hospitality industry.

These changes take effect on April 1.
