POLICE HONOURS NIGHT AWARD RECIPIENTS

 


The following honourees were selected by a committee comprised of representatives from the B.C. Association of Chiefs of Police and the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General’s police services division.

 

AWARDS OF VALOUR

 

Delta Police Department:

Constable Christopher Borgstede – subdued a distraught male who, armed with a pitchfork, threatened fellow officers and police dog.

Sergeant Kelly Young – rescued a driver trapped inside a burning vehicle.

 

Elk Valley Detachment:

Constable Cavan Jeffery and Corporal Alvin Wright (retired) – maintained public safety during annual Coal Miner Day festivities.

 

Creston Detachment:

Constable Kevin Christensen – apprehended violent suspects, one armed with a handgun, who threatened fellow members.

 

Hope Detachment:

Constable C.W. Greig (now with “E” Division Integrated Gang Task Force) and
Constable Kevin Page –
rescued a suicidal female hanging from the outside railing of the Fraser Bridge.

 

Island District Integrated Road Safety Unit:

Constable Sean Cleary – maintained public safety during annual Coal Miner Day festivities.

 

Mission Detachment:

Constable David Tarchuk – rescued a male trapped inside a burning vehicle.

 

New Westminster Police Department:

Constable Neil Collins, Constable Paul Hyland, Constable Brian Knipstrom and Staff Sergeant Joseph Spindor – apprehended a violent suspect who, armed with a handgun, threatened fellow officers.

 

Prince George Detachment:

Corporal Paul Arsenault – apprehended violent suspects, one armed with handgun, who threatened fellow members.

 


RCMP “E” Division:

Corporal Randy Lines – rescued a suicidal female from the top girders of the Port Mann Bridge.

 

Vancouver Police Department:

Constable Phil Chambers, Constable Michelle Davey and Constable Warren Tutkaluke  – saved the life of a distraught male who climbed a construction crane, attempting to take his own life.

Constable Jeffrey Stanley Dy and Constable Sandra Glendinning – rescued a male submerged in the murky waters of the Fraser River.

Constable David Laing and Constable Benjamin Stevens – rescued residents from a burning rooming house.

 

White Rock Detachment:

Constable Jonathan Brown and Constable Leanne McNeill – rescued residents from a burning building.

 

 

AWARDS FOR MERITORIOUS SERVICE

 

Abbotsford Police Department:

Detective Brian Kwak – involved in a multi-jurisdictional investigation into a series of homicides, which resulted in several convictions.

Constable Doug Moore – apprehended a distraught male who, armed with a knife, threatened
to cause harm to himself and fellow officers.

Constable Shaun Nagel and Sergeant David Schmirler – apprehended a violent male who, armed with a handgun, threatened to cause harm to fellow officers.

 

Chilliwack Detachment:

Constable Wayne Baier and Constable Keith Horwood (both now with Upper Fraser Valley Regional Detachment) – apprehended a distraught male who, armed with a knife, threatened harm to fellow officers.

 

Coquitlam Detachment:

Corporal Marc Alexander – volunteered numerous fundraising hours for the Sunshine Dreams for Kids organization.

 

Delta Police Department:

Constable David Vaughan-Smith – rescued an occupant from a vehicle submerged in the murky waters of the Fraser River.

 

Island District:

Constable Jason Kerr – involved in a complex kidnapping investigation that resulted in a successful conviction.

 

Kamloops City Detachment:

Constable Micheal Traas – supported the Kamloops Alliance Senior High Youth Group.

 

Mission Detachment:

Corporal Robert Currie (retired) – rescued trapped occupants from a vehicle that had
crashed down an embankment.


 

North Vancouver Detachment:

Constable Paul Duffy – re-investigated two unsolved homicides, resulting in a successful conviction.

Staff Sergeant Brendan FitzPatrick (now with RCMP “E” Division) – involved in an international murder investigation that resulted in several convictions.

 

RCMP “E” Division:

Staff Sergeant James Dallin, Inspector J. Douglas Henderson (retired), Sergeant Georgie Kenzie (now with Valemont Detachment) and Staff Sergeant Donald Gordon Rinn (retired) – involved in an international murder investigation that resulted in several convictions.

Corporal Peter Jadis, Staff Sergeant Kevin MacLeod, Inspector Robert Paulson and Sergeant Trent Rolfe – involved in a multi-jurisdictional investigation into a series of homicides that resulted in several convictions.

 

Richmond Detachment:

Constable Shelley Levy – rescued a suicidal male from the outside railing of the Oak Street Bridge.

 

Surrey Detachment:

Constable Ross Lundie – organized the 2004 Junior Police Academy.

Constable William Robinson and Constable Cynthia Ward – apprehended a violent male who, armed with a knife, threatened the life of another citizen.

Corporal JoAnne Stephenson – involved in a multi-jurisdictional investigation into a series of homicides that resulted in several convictions. She also re-investigated two unsolved homicides, which led to a successful conviction.

 

Vancouver Police Department:

Detective Alan Cattley (retired) – re-investigated two unsolved homicides, which led to a successful conviction.

Sergeant Trevor Herrmann – rescued a suicidal female from the outside railing of the Granville Street Bridge.
