SCIENCE WORLD OPENS DOORS TO B.C. FOSTER FAMILIES

VICTORIA – Vancouver’s TELUS World of Science will open its doors to foster families throughout B.C. in celebration of Foster Family Month, Children and Family Minister Tom Christensen announced today.

“Every day, foster families are opening their homes – and their hearts – to children and youth who really need their support,” said Christensen. “It’s wonderful, in turn, to see organizations like Science World showing their support for foster families and offering them an amazing experience they might not otherwise receive.

“It’s also a great example of what businesses, organizations and communities – both large and small – can do to support foster families during Foster Family Month and throughout the year.”

British Columbia is home to about 3,500 foster families. The Science World program will see children of foster families receive free admission to the venue when accompanied by a paying adult. The program kicks off in October and will run throughout the entire month.

“We wanted to find a way to recognize foster families for the amazing work they do in this community and in communities throughout the province,” said Bryan Tisdall, president and CEO of Science World.

Distribution of the special admission passes will be co-ordinated through the BC Federation of Foster Parent Associations.

“We’re really grateful that Science World is supporting foster families in this way,” said Melanie Filiatrault, president of the BC Federation of Foster Parent Associations. “It’s a tremendously generous gesture, one that many families will appreciate and enjoy.”

Foster parents interested in receiving admission passes to Science World may contact the federation by calling 1 800 663-9999 toll-free or e-mailing bcffpa@istar.ca.
