VICTORIA – Forty-nine British Columbia communities will share in over
$700,000 from the Province under the Infrastructure
Planning Grant Program this year, Community Services
Minister Ida Chong announced today.
“We recognize the importance of helping British Columbia’s communities meet their infrastructure needs,” said Chong. “This program supports local governments in planning and developing sustainable infrastructure providing benefits in public health, environmental protection, and strengthened local economies.”
The Infrastructure Planning Grant Program offers grants up to $10,000 to
help local governments plan, design and manage infrastructure. The grants support projects that improve
infrastructure sustainability such as long-term comprehensive plans and studies
needed to assess the economic and environmental feasibility proposed of water,
sewer, drainage and transportation infrastructure.
These grants are in addition to the small community
grants aimed to help small and medium-sized municipalities fund basic services
to residents, and the regional district grants, which help fund basic
administration and services to those regional districts with a population less
than 250,000.
The Province also
recently signed the Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund, a new infrastructure
agreement with the government of Canada to provide $102 million in combined
senior government funding over the coming year for communities across B.C.
