VICTORIA – Royal Roads University faculty members have ratified their five-year agreement by 100 per cent, Finance Minister Carole Taylor announced today.
“I’d like to congratulate the negotiators from both the Faculty Association and the university. Their hard work in reaching this agreement before March 31 and ratifying it unanimously demonstrates that the agreement meets the needs of both parties,” said Taylor. “There have now been 41 agreements ratified since the beginning of March, involving more than 188,000 employees.”
This agreement covers approximately 40 full-time faculty at Royal Roads University in Victoria. This is the first collective agreement negotiated between the university and the newly formed Faculty Association.
“Royal Roads University gives mid-career professionals a chance to advance their careers, and this agreement will help ensure those students and their employers continue to receive the benefit of higher education,” Advanced Education Minister Murray Coell said. “I commend both the university and the faculty association for considering the needs of their students and B.C.’s economy.”
Royal Roads University ratified this agreement on March 31.
“We applaud our faculty
colleagues for participating in the negotiation of a fair and reasonable
agreement within the spirit of the Royal Roads University Act,” said RRU’s
acting president Bob Skene. “This agreement bodes well for the future of RRU.”
More than 50 agreements were reached between March 2 and March 31. Negotiations have been completed for about 75 per cent of all public sector employees.
More than 70,000 employees are covered by contracts that expire at the end of June and a further 8,000 have contracts expiring after that date. Negotiators at 77 tables will be working hard to reach agreements before midnight, June 30, 2006.
