VICTORIA – The transition period for forestry and range tenure holders to have approved plans under the Forest and Range Practices Act is being extended.
The transition period for those licensees who are required to operate under forest stewardship plans is being extended three months, to March 31, 2007 from Dec. 31, 2006. The transition period for woodlot and range tenure holders, who prepare a woodlot licence plan or a range use or range stewardship plan respectively, has been extended one year, to Dec. 31, 2007.
As of Nov. 30, 2006, forest stewardship plans have been initiated, advertised or completed for 76 per cent of the harvest that requires such plans. The extension will allow forest tenure holders, including First Nations with recently-awarded forest and range agreements, additional time to prepare forest stewardship plans.
The Forest and Range Practices Act and its regulations govern
the activities of forest and range licensees in B.C. The statute sets the
requirements for planning, road building, logging, reforestation, and grazing.
