WHISTLER INVESTMENTS UNDER THE RESORT MUNICIPALITY

REVENUE SHARING PROGRAM

 


Under the Resort Municipality Revenue Sharing Agreement signed with the Province of British Columbia on March 30, 2007, the Resort Municipality of Whistler will invest an estimated $34.7 million over five years in a range of programs and projects, including:

 

Resort Programming

$12.9 million

Event support

Supporting events including development of new events and leveraging existing events

Strategic Alliances Event Support

Temporary infrastructure to support events

Village Host

Comprehensive training for village host volunteers including maintenance and supply of uniforms

Events Whistler

Administrative expertise and infrastructure to develop and attract festivals, events and concerts

Visitor Information Centre

Enhanced visitor information services

Recruitment, Service Strategy

Strategies and implementation of training, recruitment, retention programs for businesses and staff

Film Festival Support

Expanded and enhanced events to enrich the cultural experience of local, national and international audiences

Arts Council Funding

Co-ordination of relevant arts and cultural programming in arts and culture tourism

Look and Feel Program

Banners, festive lighting and orientation signage; acquisition of staging and big screens

Business Success Program

Small business tools and customer service training

Maximizing Tourism Opportunities

Infrastructure, planning and programming investments to build on emerging trends in tourism opportunities

Arts, Culture and Heritage Enhancement

Arts, culture and heritage program investments, such as public art

Community/Volunteer Engagement

Recruit, build, support and engage volunteers to drive sport and event tourism

Volunteerism and Community Pride

A volunteer bureau to maintain the developed volunteer base and assist local organizing committees meet volunteer commitments

 

 

Resort Infrastructure

$21.8 million

Conference centre Improvements

Increase the centre’s overall capacity with improvements to the theatre and installation of energy efficient equipment

Cross-country Building

New building as central point for cross-country skiing

Fitz Bridge (ticket booth)

Portion of costs to replace cross-country ski bridge

Function Valley Trail Connection

Constructing multiple use valley trail connection from Alpha Lake park to Function Junction

Gymnastics Facility  - Athlete’s centre

New LEED rated building to support a wide spectrum of sport specific training opportunities.

Lakeside Park

Redevelopment of park to include improved access, concession, docks and washrooms

Library Construction

New LEED rated centre for residents and visitors

Community Squares

Develop and implement a phased master plan to include reinvestment in permanent key public spaces and amenities

Meadow Park Sports Centre

Infrastructure improvements to offer diverse recreation amenities

Museum Enhancements

Upgrade and aesthetic updates to enhance visitor experience

Museum Master Plan

Plan looking at the future direction of museum’s role in the resort community

Park - Public Use Showers

New outdoor showers at various lakeside locations

Parks - General Improvements

Improvements to parks trails and replacement of aging furniture, safety features etc.

Rainbow Trail Reconstruction

Reconstruction and relocation of parts of alpine hiking trail

Recreational Trail Program

Development of introductory and transitional mountain bike trails

Sea to Sky Trail

Construction of significant portion of 150 km trail from Squamish to D’Arcy (regional project)

Search and Rescue Addition

New building and equipment, command centre

Upper Village Connector

Reconstruction into a pedestrian friendly route

Valley Trail Reconstruction

Critical capital improvements to pedestrian/cycling route

Valley Trail Spruce Grove Nicklaus North

Completing Grand Loop of trail

Village Enhancement

Includes removal of accessibility barriers, and enhancing character items and features relating to history and heritage

Employee Housing and Infrastructure

Construction of deed restricted affordable resident housing
