VICTORIA – Over 5,000 people have now signed up to take part in the Conversation on Health, said Parliamentary Secretary for the Conversation on Health and Langley MLA Mary Polak. As of today, more than 5,100 people have registered for public and professional sessions being held in communities across the province.
“I am pleased that British Columbians are taking a strong interest in the regional public forums,” said Polak. “As we saw from the Citizen’s Assembly on Electoral Reform, whenever we ask British Columbians to contribute to their future they do so enthusiastically and provide great ideas and solutions.”
Regional public forums and health professional meetings will be held throughout B.C. between February and July 2007. The first public forums and health professional meetings will take place in Kamloops on Feb. 2 and 3. More than 200 people have registered for the public forum and over 50 health professionals for the professional meeting in that community.
“Deadlines for forums around British Columbia are approaching weekly, so we encourage people to sign up soon so they have a chance to be randomly selected to participate in a regional forum,” said Polak. “People can register by calling the toll-free phone line at 1-866-884-2055, Monday to Friday, or by e-mailing conversationonhealth@victoria1.gov.bc.ca.”
All participants in regional public forums will be receiving an advance package of materials to help them prepare for discussions. This package includes 12 factsheets on different aspects of the health system. These factsheets will be posted to the Conversation website in the near future.
In addition to the regional public forums and professional meetings, British Columbians also have five other ways they can join the Conversation on Health:
