VICTORIA – Attorney General Wally Oppal today announced that Geoff Plant is appointed to the British Columbia Law Institute for a three-year term beginning Feb. 7.
Plant
was Attorney General and Minister responsible for Treaty Negotiations from 2001
to 2005. He was first elected to the British Columbia legislature in 1996. As
Attorney General, he chaired the legislative review committee and was minister
responsible for the creation and oversight of the Citizens’ Assembly on
Electoral Reform.
Since
2005, Plant has been a partner at Heenan Blaikie law firm, where he has been a
senior advisor to the government of British Columbia on land and resource
negotiations. He
was appointed Vancouver’s civil city commissioner in May 2007.
The
British Columbia Law Institute promotes the clarification and simplification of
the law and its adaptation to modern social needs. The institute works to improve the administration of
justice and respect for the rule of law and to encourage scholarly legal
research. Two of 14 board members are appointed by the Attorney General.
