LOCALMOTION HELPS WARFIELD IMPROVE WALKWAY

WARFIELD The Province is contributing $36,475 to the community of Warfield to resurface and improve the existing Arnold Lauriente Way greenway, announced Community Development Minister Blair Lekstrom.

“This LocalMotion funding is helping communities become greener, healthier and more active places to live,” said Lekstrom. “Improving the surface of this walkway in Warfield will make sure it is in good shape for pedestrians and other recreational users, long into the future.”

This project will resurface a section of Arnold Lauriente Way to include minor drainage upgrades, rock and tree removal, where required, and the replacement of benches.

“The Arnold Lauriente Way is an important greenway link to the Trans-Canada Trail joining us with the neighbouring communities of Rossland and Trail,” said Warfield Mayor Jim Nelson. “The improvements to the walkway will make for safer access for children walking to and from Webster Elementary School, as well as the many residents and visitors who use the walkway now. In addition, improvements will make the walkway more accessible to seniors and the disabled.”

LocalMotion is investing $40 million over four years to help municipalities build bike paths, walkways, and greenways, support community playgrounds and improve accessibility for people with disabilities. The funding supports capital projects, and is based on a 50/50 cost share with the municipality.

The LocalMotion project builds on other provincial funding to help Warfield improve infrastructure, including $1.25 million from the Province through the Canada-B.C. Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund for the community’s new water supply project and more than $1.3 million in Small Community Grants from the Province, since 2004, to assist with basic services.
