“We are pleased to be able to work towards an alternative for our residents so that they have the option of choosing to walk or cycle without having to use the highway,” said Pitt Meadows Mayor Don MacLean. “Cost-sharing on this new bridge makes it possible to work towards completion sooner than would otherwise be possible.”
LocalMotion is investing $40 million over four
years in capital projects that build bike paths, walkways and greenways and
build seniors-friendly and disability-friendly communities. LocalMotion funds
are also available for projects that support community playgrounds and
children’s parks activities. The program provides local governments up to 50
per cent funding for approved projects up to a maximum provincial contribution
of $1 million.
Today’s funding builds on other provincial supports for the community, including $500,000 in B.C. Spirit Squares funding, plus more than $1.5 million in small community grants and traffic fine revenue sharing since 2004.
