B.C.’s Child-Care Capital
Funding Program helps communities create new licensed child-care spaces to help
meet the needs of B.C. families. A 12-member review panel, with representation
from each region of the province, assessed applications based on financial
viability; long-term sustainability of the proposed spaces; community needs
assessments; and community support.

2,200 licensed spaces are expected to open by 2010.
·
114 projects in
60 B.C. communities are receiving
major capital child-care funding:
o 68 group child-care centres;
o 43 family child-care centres; and
o three previously announced child-care centres located alongside social

38 of these projects
will locate in vacant space in schools and public buildings.

10 of
these projects will create or expand neighbourhood hubs.
