SENIORS’ HOUSING AND SUPPORT INITIATIVE

2008 PILOT PROJECT GRANT RECIPIENTS

 


1) District of 100 Mile House – Produce a safety brochure for seniors on all aspects of community safety. $9,900

2) District of 100 Mile House with Canim Lake Band – Develop a bathing program for seniors with disabilities and chronic health needs on Canim Lake reserve. $22,600

3) City of Abbotsford – Develop a Seniors’ Transportation Initiative, including bus buddies, medical transportation, adopt-a-spot and model bus stops. $35,000

4) District of Barriere – Initiate a Seniors in Bloom community garden program. $35,000

5) Municipality of Bowen Island – Provide an on-call transportation service for seniors. $35,000

6) City of BurnabyDevelop and deliver Health Literacy Workshops and seminars at four seniors’ centres to assist older adults maintain independent lifestyle. $35,000

7) Regional District of Central Kootenay – Initiate Seniors’ Fitness pilot project. $34,661.50

8) City of Chilliwack – Create an Age-Friendly Plan. $35,000

9) Town of Creston – Undertake Seniors’ Perspective on the Creston Valley project. $35,000

10) District of Kitimat – Provide a seniors’ outreach coordinator. $35,000.

11) City of New Westminster – Develop a database of seniors’ programs and services, prepare public information materials, hold information fairs and launch communication campaign. $35,000

12) Village of Pemberton – Initiate the ElderGo! seniors’ transportation pilot project. $35,000

13) City of Penticton – Undertake the Seniors’ Community Development and Programming pilot project. $35,000

14) City of Port Moody – Develop the Where Minds Meet reception centre for intellectual activities for older adults. $30,000

15) City of Prince George – Create a seniors’ housing strategy for the City of Prince George. $25,000

16) City of Richmond – Plan and facilitate Transitional Therapeutic Recreation Services for recently hospitalized, isolated and frail seniors. $34,770.40

17) Sunshine Coast Regional District – Implement the Civic Leadership Program for seniors on the Sunshine Coast. $31,800

18) City of Vancouver – Identify and develop strategies for neighbourhood houses to address current seniors’ issues. $35,000

19) City of Victoria – Develop and deliver the Senior Friendly Employment Project. $35,000

 

20) Village of Warfield – Develop the Warfield Senior Services Initiative including seniors’ drop-in centre, Home Safety Check program, exercise classes and healthy eating cooking groups. $20,000

21) City of Williams Lake – Offer the Seniors Sampler to allow senior population to try out different physical activities in a safe, non-threatening environment. $35,000
