SEOUL – Two agreements signed today between Simon Fraser University and Yonsei University build upon the universities’ current relationship and promote collaborative research in science and medicinal chemistry, announced Premier Gordon Campbell.
“This is a great collaboration between two world class universities that will serve to strengthen B.C.’s educational links with Korea and lead to more opportunities to share knowledge, expertise, and research,” said Premier Campbell. “This agreement is another example of the opportunities being created as we build valuable partnerships under the Asia Pacific Initiative.”
The goals of the memoranda of understanding (MOU) are to enhance opportunities for knowledge and technology transfer, contribute to innovation and productivity increases in both economies and provide opportunities for highly qualified people to contribute to economic growth.
The relationship between SFU and Yonsei may include but is not limited to: joint proposals for collaborative research, shared use of research facilities, jointly-sponsored conferences, exchange of professors, researchers, graduate and undergraduate students, and setting up joint international labs.
“SFU’s 4D Labs and our materials
science and fuel cells groups have built an international reputation for their
innovative multidisciplinary research and will assist with the development of
hydrogen technologies. Our aim is to work collaboratively with Yonsei
University to forward the development of hydrogen technologies, and nanomedical
technologies and diagnostics,” said Mario Pinto, SFU’s vice-president of
research.
