SEOUL – Premier Gordon Campbell was on hand today to help open the Vancouver Film School’s new recruitment office in Seoul, increasing the visibility of British Columbia, Canada, as a destination for post-secondary education.
“By making these kinds of connections in the Asia Pacific, we can build British Columbia’s reputation as the destination of choice for international students,” said Premier Campbell. “Vancouver Film School is known around the world as a leader in digital design and entertainment arts. This office will help draw more students to our province, and spread the word about the range of education opportunities available in British Columbia.”
International education contributes approximately $2 billion a year to the provincial economy, according to the BC Progress Board.
“Our reputation as a leader in media and entertainment production is gaining us a lot of attention, including our 2008 ranking as the top school in Canada and fifth-best worldwide in the 3D World Magazine for animation schools,” said Vancouver Film School president James Griffin. “Improving our visibility in Korea will go a long way towards continuing to attract the best and brightest students from Asia Pacific and around the world.”
The Vancouver Film School graduates approximately 1,000 students every year and 50 per cent of those students are from outside of Canada. The school also has recruitment offices in Mumbai, Mexico City and Taipei – all designed to help potential students who want to study with VFS in British Columbia.
VFS offers several one-year programs in a range of studies, including acting, screen writing, animation, film production, game design, and entertainment business management. The school generates 900 finished productions every year. Many of the school’s alumni are working for leading employers like Microsoft, Electronic Arts and LucasFilm.
