FLOOD MITIGATION FUNDED TO PROTECT GROUSE RESORT, HOMES

NORTH VANCOUVER – A project that will reduce the risk of debris flows on two local creeks and related damage to Grouse Mountain Resort and area homes has received $2 million from the Province.

Most work will take place on MacKay Creek, including the installation of a debris trap, with additional work on Grouse Creek. The project will increase public safety for recreational users, visitors, resort employees and homeowners in the area and better protect their assets in the event of heavy winter rains.

Premier Gordon Campbell promised $2 million toward the flood mitigation work in April 2005. Discussions among project partners concerning the land involved and project details have continued since that time.

Additional, detailed engineering and design, as well as final costing, will be completed before the work proceeds. The District of North Vancouver will oversee the project, working in conjunction with the landowner.
