SMALL BUSINESS GUIDES TARGET WIDER AUDIENCE

SURREY – Two updated provincial publications aimed at helping potential and existing small business owners to grow and expand their operations are now available in nine different languages, announced Small Business and Revenue Minister Kevin Krueger during a speech to members of the Surrey Board of Trade.

In addition to being newly updated, the ‘Starting a Small Business Guide’ and ‘Import/Export Guide’ has been translated from the English language into Chinese Simplified, Chinese Traditional, Filipino, French, Japanese, Korean, Punjabi and Vietnamese.

“These guides offer helpful information for business owners planning to expand their operations into the world-wide market place,” said Krueger. “By providing these updated and translated guides, we will reach a wider audience, ensuring every B.C. entrepreneur has the necessary tools for starting or growing successful small businesses.”

During Small Business Month, more than 1,000 information packages containing the ‘Starting a Small Business Guide’, ‘Import/Export Guide’ and other related documents are distributed to small business stakeholders. The guides can be found at www.gov.bc.ca/sbr/popt/sb_profile/2008/index.html

“The translation of these important small business publications recognizes the diversity of our business community,” said Dave S. Hayer, Parliamentary Secretary for Multiculturalism and Immigration and Surrey-Tynehead MLA. “Even more entrepreneurs will be able to access the information they need to ensure small business success in British Columbia.”

“As someone who is self-employed, I know what it's like to set up a small business,” said Jeffrey Chiu, former president of the Chinese Realtors Association of BC and the Crystal Mall. “The translation of these important small business guides will provide new British Columbians with better resources when starting their own businesses.”

October is Small Business Month in British Columbia. Proclaimed by Premier Gordon Campbell for the first time in 2007, Small Business Month recognizes and celebrates the valuable contribution small businesses in all regions make to British Columbia’s growing economy.
