PROVINCE HONOURS X-FILES CREATOR

VANCOUVER – The Province of British Columbia will be honouring award-winning writer, director and producer Chris Carter for his outstanding contributions to B.C.’s film and television industry, Minister of Tourism, Culture and the Arts Bill Bennett announced today.

“Chris Carter has been a driving force behind many different film and television productions in our province, ever since the very first episode of The X-Files was filmed in Vancouver back in 1993,” said Bennett.  “Almost 200 episodes of his different television series have been filmed here, and now he has brought The X-Files back home to B.C. with his latest feature film.”

Minister of State for Intergovernmental Affairs Joan McIntyre will be presenting Carter with a certificate of recognition, on behalf of Premier Gordon Campbell, at a pre-screening of The X-Files: I Want to Believe, Carter’s latest production to be filmed in and around Vancouver.

“Chris has been a true friend to the B.C.’s film and television industry,” stated McIntyre.  “His productions have always showcased what can be accomplished using our province’s world-class locations, facilities, and talent pool.”

“We’re home to the third-largest production centre in North America,” added Bennett. “We have grown to over a billion dollar industry, not only because of our ability to attract productions, but also because we maintain solid working relationships with the people who film here.  The Province is proud to recognize Chris’s outstanding contributions to our film and television industry over these past 15 years.”

In 2007, film and television production contributed $943 million to the provincial economy, according to statistics from the BC Film Commission.  The X-Files: I Want to Believe was one of this year’s first major studio productions in the province, filming from January to March 2008.
