“These appointments bring together fresh ideas and experience, to the
benefit of our province’s robust arts and culture sector,” said Bennett. “With
seasoned leadership and new faces from the arts, industry and academia, the
BCAC is poised to continue its tradition of successful support and advocacy for
the arts.”
The BCAC consists of 15 members, appointed by the lieutenant-governor in council, who represent the regions, cultural diversity, and artistic communities of B.C. The new appointees are Christos Dikeakos, Stanley W. Hamilton, Ron Smith, Michael Tindall and Connie Watts. They will be led by Don Shumka, who has been reappointed as chair for a further one-year term, and newly appointed vice-chair Jane Danzo, a current BCAC member.
“Our mission is to support the arts and cultural community to achieve
its creative, social and economic potential,” said Shumka. “I am confident that
these new members will rise to the challenge.”
The BC Arts Council was established by the Province in 1996 with the
mandate to provide encouragement and support to the arts and cultural
community. To date, it has distributed over $158 million in funding to assist
artists and arts organizations throughout the province. For more information on
