“The VSO is
a cherished cultural institution in our province, and the previous season
brought it to new heights, winning both a Grammy and a Juno award,” said
Bennett. “And with its upcoming Asia-Pacific tour, the VSO will serve as a
cultural ambassador, showcasing the excellence of Canadian performing arts.

opening night reception, Bennett announced that provincial funding for the tour
would be increased to $350,000, thanks to a $100,000 grant through the BC150
Cultural Fund, a $150-million arts endowment fund administered by the BC Arts
Council. A $250,000 community gaming grant was previously announced in
February. The tour itself takes place this October, with stops in

province and city; assist in establishing long-lasting business relationships
in each country for sponsors and funders; and raise the artistic level, administrative

The VSO also receives annual operating assistance from the Province through the BC Arts Council. In the most recent round of funding, announced earlier this month, the VSO received $1.22 million, an increase of $185,000 over the previous year’s funding. Increases in operating assistance to B.C. arts organizations were also made possible through the proceeds of the BC150 Cultural Fund.
