PROVINCE FUNDS NEW OPPORTUNITIES FOR B.C. ARTISTS

 


Twenty arts organizations have benefited from $350,000 in funding through the latest round of BC Arts Council grants.

 

Special Projects - Unique Opportunities program:

A total of 19 groups shared $300,000 in grants made possible by the BC150 Cultural Fund.

 

Coquitlam

Evergreen Cultural Centre received $10,000     to assist with the production costs of Water's Edge, a music event that will be part of the 2009 Cultural Olympiad.

 

Kamloops

Western Canada Theatre Company Society received $20,000 to assist with the production costs of taking The Ecstasy of Rita Joe to BC Scene in Ottawa, April 2009.

 

North Vancouver

BC Photography and Media Arts Society/ Presentation House Gallery received $15,000 to assist with the production costs of a publication to be launched at New York Artist Book Fair.

 

Vancouver

Hard Rubber New Music Society received $8,000 to support The Drum and Light Festival during the 2009 Cultural Olympiad.

 

I.E. Artspeak Gallery Society    received $20,000 to assist with the production costs of a contemporary art forum and publication for 2009 Cultural Olympiad.

 

Musica Intima   received $7,500 to support additional production costs for the choir's performance at the BC Scene in Ottawa, April 2009.

 

New Forms Media Society received $20,000   to assist with the production costs for Midforms, part of the 2009 Cultural Olympiad program.

 

Or Gallery Society received $20,000    to assist with production costs for an exhibition and book project as part of 2009 Cultural Olympiad.

 

Pacific Association Of Artist-Run Centres (Paarc) received $6,500       to assist with the production costs for SWARM, part of the 2009 Cultural Olympiad.

 

Radix Theatre Society   received $7,500 to refine and rehearse Assembly in preparation for BC Scene in Ottawa, April 2009.

 

The Realwheels Society received $16,350 for production costs for Skydive as part of the 2009 Cultural Olympiad, as co-presented by PuSh and the Arts Club.

 

Theatre La Seizieme received $9,300 to present La Vue D'en Haut in Ottawa during the BC Scene in Ottawa, April 2009.

 

Turning Point Ensemble received $25,000 to support production costs for Satie: Relache as part of the 2009 Cultural Olympiad.

 

The Vancouver Art Gallery Association received $40,000 to assist with the production costs of an exhibition for the 2009 Cultural Olympiad.

 

Vancouver International Centre for Contemporary Asian Art (Centre A) received $10,850        to assist with the   production costs for an exhibition at the BC Scene in Ottawa, April 2009.

 

Visible Arts Society/Grunt Gallery received $25,000 to assist with the   production costs of Beat Nation: Hip Hop as an Indigenous Culture, at BC Scene in Ottawa, April 2009.

 

Western Front Society  received $10,000 to assist with the production costs for a site-specific project during 2009 Cultural Olympiad.

 

The VDC Dance Centre Society (The Dance Centre) received $15,000 to remount and rehearse Triaspora at the BC Scene in Ottawa, April 2009.

 

West Vancouver

Dancers of Damelahamid received $14,000 for the We yah hani nah Coastal First Nations Dance Festival, part of the 2009 Cultural Olympiad.

 

Community Arts Development Projects

 

Art Starts in Schools Society received $50,000 in funding for the 10th anniversary of Arts & Culture Week, April 19-25, 2009.
