B.C. SUPPORTS SEASONAL BUS SERVICE IN GOLDEN

GOLDEN – People travelling from Golden to Kicking Horse Mountain Resort will soon be able to travel by bus, thanks to funding announced today by Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Kevin Falcon.

The Province is giving $8,000 to BC Transit and the Kicking Horse Country Transit System to support a seasonal bus service to the resort. The service begins in November, running through the winter. The service will cost $76,000. The Town of Golden, the Kicking Horse Mountain Resort and passenger fares will pay the remaining funding needed.

“We’re encouraging people to use public transit in every aspect of their lives, and that includes recreation and relaxation,” said Falcon. “This new transit service will be perfect for resort guests who don’t drive or prefer not to, and for commuting resort employees.”

The provincial funding announced today comes from $20.5 million in new funding for BC Transit this year. It is also part of the funding from the Provincial Transit Plan, which aims to double transit ridership provincewide by 2020 by increasing choices for travellers. The $14-billion plan also focuses on reducing greenhouse gas emissions from cars by 4.7 million tonnes cumulatively by 2020.
