VICTORIA – Three new members have been appointed to Tourism British Columbia’s board of directors, Tourism, Sport and the Arts Minister Stan Hagen announced today.
Chris Zimmerman, Vancouver Canucks CEO, Laird Miller, London Drugs chief financial officer, and Nancy Stibbard, president of the Capilano Group of Companies, have accepted two-year terms, effective March 31, 2008.
“Their combined skills and experience in marketing, finance and tourism will provide further leadership for the organization as it continues its great work of inviting the world to visit British Columbia,” said Tourism BC chair Allen Tozer.
“Tourism in B.C. is a $10.2-billion industry, bringing new dollars to regional economies in every corner of the province,” said Hagen. “With the 2008 Provincial Budget, government is boosting support to Tourism BC to market our fourth-largest export industry by increasing the Hotel Room Tax. In turn, this will provide the necessary funding for the board to help the Province meet our goal of doubling tourism revenues by 2015.”
Tourism B.C. works closely with the province’s tourism industry and the provincial government to promote and develop tourism throughout the province. Its mandate is to promote B.C. as a tourist destination worldwide, foster growth of the tourism industry, increase revenues and employment throughout British Columbia, and increase the economic benefits generated by the tourism industry for all British Columbians.
