Domestic Industry Comparison to 2006
·
Overall domestic
spending in B.C. increased 47 per cent, to over $407 million, up from $278
million in 2006.
·
A total of 138 domestic
productions were shot in British Columbia in 2007, including 24 feature films,
24 television series, 80 television projects (TV movies, miniseries, pilots,
documentaries, etc.) and 10 animated series or projects.
·
The number of television
series increased 71 per cent, to 24 series, up from 14 in 2006.
·
The number of feature
film projects increased 33 per cent, to 24 projects, up from 18 in 2006.
·
Animation spending
increased 45 per cent, to over $53 million, compared to $37 million in 2006.
Foreign Industry Comparison to 2006
·
Overall foreign
production spending in B.C. decreased 44 per cent to $536 million, down from
$950 million in 2006.
·
A total of 64 foreign
productions were shot in British Columbia in 2007, including 23 features films,
18 television series, 14 television projects (TV movies, miniseries, pilots,
documentaries etc.) and 9 animated series or projects.
·
The number of television
series decreased 28 per cent, to 18 series, down from 25 in 2006.
·
The number of feature
film projects decreased 34 per cent, to 23 projects, down from 35 in 2006.
·
Animation spending
decreased 16 per cent, to $35 million compared to $41 million in 2006.
Other Highlights
·
The five-year growth in
domestic production demonstrates the quality and competitiveness of B.C.
production companies.
·
Domestic television
series production increased 183 per cent, to $158 million, up from $56 million
in 2006.
·
Foreign production
activity surpassed $535 million in B.C. expenditures.
·
The province’s animation
industry continued to thrive in 2007, with some of the biggest productions
being Ricky Sprocket, Atomic Betty 3, Chaotic, George of the Jungle, Storm
Hawks, Edgar and Ellen, Space Chimps and Barbie: Island Princess.
·
Major movies and
television series shot in British Columbia in 2007 included: Elegy, Juno, The
Watchmen, Passengers, Far Cry, Tale of Two Sisters, Iron Road, Snow Buddies,
Tin Man, Personal Effects, Aliens in America, JPOD, The Guard, Flash Gordon,
Whistler, Men in Trees, Bionic Woman, Reaper, Stargate Atlantis and Supernatural.
