BLACK CREEK EVENTS SHARE IN BC150 CELEBRATION GRANTS

BLACK CREEK – Black Creek will be receiving a $5,000 BC150 Celebration Grant for celebrations combining BC150 and the 50th anniversary of the Black Creek Community Association, Stan Hagen Minister of Tourism, Sport and the Arts and MLA for Comox Valley announced today.

“Black Creek has a rich history and I’m pleased that the community is celebrating its heritage with the help of a BC150 grant,” said Hagen. “I encourage all communities to celebrate their local heritage this year, as we celebrate 150 years of British Columbia.”

BC150 Celebration Grants support the BC150 pillars of heritage, communities, multiculturalism, Aboriginal people, and arts and culture; and reflect the unique nature of each British Columbia community.

Black Creek is celebrating BC150 with the Black Creek Heritage Fair and Reunion that is taking place on September 13th and 14th. The celebrations will then continue throughout the year with a number of historical presentations and events including a pet parade, a historical trivia night, and a historical fashion show and tea.

To qualify for a BC150 Celebration Grant, organizations must be non-profit, operate primarily for community benefit and have a voluntary, broad-based membership. Organizations can apply until Aug. 31, 2008. Grants of up to $10,000 are available through the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General. For more information on BC150 Grants, please visit www.pssg.gov.bc.ca/gaming/grants/bc150.htm.

BC150 is a celebration of the 150th anniversary of the founding of the Crown Colony of British Columbia in 1858. Every community in B.C. is invited to participate in this year-long celebration of B.C.’s cultural diversity, community strength and widespread achievement.
