BC150 CELEBRATIONS REACH MILESTONE WITH 1,000TH EVENT

VICTORIA – British Columbians have now registered 1,000 events to celebrate B.C.’s 150th anniversary, Tourism, Sport and the Arts Minister Stan Hagen announced today.

“We welcome the BC Bike Race as our 1,000th event in celebration of B.C.’s 150th anniversary,” said Hagen. “This exciting milestone clearly demonstrates that British Columbians are celebrating our province’s cultural diversity, community strength and achievement over the past 150 years.”

With 1,000 events and activities related to BC150 taking place in all regions of the province this year, every British Columbian has an opportunity to learn, share and celebrate what it means to be part of B.C.’s heritage.

The BC Bike Race will start on June 28 in Shawnigan Lake and wind its way through the mountains of the Comox Valley. Participants from around the world will then travel to Powell River, exploring the trails on the Sunshine Coast and on to the Sea-to-Sky corridor to finish their 600-km adventure in Whistler on July 4. In total, the BC Bike Race will pass through nine beautiful West Coast communities, each showcasing unique qualities and elements that make British Columbia a world-class destination for athletes, adventurers and tourists alike.

“The BC Bike Race showcases our province internationally as one of the best places in the world to mountain bike,” said Melissa Pace, director of tourism for the BC Bike Race. “There is no better way to celebrate B.C.’s anniversary than this epic journey through our spectacular coastal communities.”

BC150 is a celebration of the 150th anniversary of the founding of the Crown Colony of British Columbia in 1858. Every community is invited to participate in this year-long celebration of B.C.’s cultural diversity, community strength and achievement. It’s not too late to affiliate your event with BC150 and be part of the celebration.
