VICTORIA – As part of Education Week, Education Minister Shirley Bond is honouring education leaders for their outstanding contributions to education in B.C. The following award-winning principals, support staff, teachers, students and education partners are receiving recognition from the Province for their dedication.
Learning Partnerships
Canada’s Outstanding Principals 2009:
· Randy Horne: Retired principal at Okanagan Mission Secondary school in the Central Okanagan School District (SD 23), Kelowna.
· Rick Oliver: Principal at Rutland Senior Secondary school in the Central Okanagan School District (SD 23), Kelowna
· Sheila Plummer: Retired principal at Seaview Community school in the Coquitlam School District (SD 43), Port Moody.
· Douglas Sheppard: Principal at Heritage Woods Secondary school in the Coquitlam School District (SD 43), Port Moody.
· Wendy Payne: Retired principal at Strawberry Vale Elementary school in the Greater Victoria School District (SD 61), Victoria.

Education Award:
· Centennial Christian school in the Coast Mountain School District (SD 82), Terrace.

Recognition of
Distinguished Service:
· Laurae McNally: Chair of the Surrey Board of Education.
· Nancy Borden: Member of the British Columbia Confederation of Parent Advisory Councils and trustee for the Saanich Board of Education.
Earth 4 School:
· Haldane Elementary in the Kamloops/Thompson School District (SD 73), Chase, is the first school in Canada to earn Earth 4 School status for completing more than 4,000 environmentally focused projects.
