FOREST DISTRICT TARGETS ABANDONED VEHICLES AND EQUIPMENT
REVELSTOKE – The Province has ordered the removal of about 60 vehicles and pieces of industrial equipment deemed abandoned on Crown land around Revelstoke and Golden.
Notices were posted on the vehicles and equipment, stipulating Wednesday, Sept. 15 as the deadline for their removal. In addition, when vehicle and equipment ownership could be determined, letters were sent to the owners. Under the Land Act, vehicle and equipment owners could face a $1,000 penalty and be held responsible for rent of Crown land and removal costs.
The vehicles include cars, vans, pieces of forestry equipment and several boats at a number of sites in the Columbia Forest District. The vehicles and equipment are in varying levels of condition, including operational, and are at old worksites or places where they broke down or were deliberately abandoned. After Sept. 15, the vehicles and equipment may be removed and disposed of by the Province.
Residents or companies who believe they may own a vehicle or piece of equipment can contact the Columbia Forest District office at 250 837-7611 for more information.
Reports and details of abandoned vehicles and other forest crimes can also be reported to the district office during business hours or Crime Stoppers toll-free at 1 800 222-8477.
