VANCOUVER – Premier Gordon Campbell issued the following statement today to congratulate the Team Canada Paralympic curling team and B.C. Paralympic athletes Lauren Woolstencroft, Karolina Wisniewska and B.C. athlete guide Lindsay Debou after a record-setting day of the 2010 Paralympic Winter Games:

“Congratulations to North Vancouver Para Alpine skier Lauren Woolstencroft, who made Paralympic history today as the only Canadian athlete to ever win five gold medals in a single Winter Paralympics and one of only three Canadians to ever win five in any Paralympic Games, winter or summer. This incredible achievement is an inspiration to people across the nation.

“Athlete guide Lindsay Debou of B.C. and athlete Viviane Forest took the silver medal today in Women’s Super Combined, bringing their medal total together to an incredible gold, three silvers and a bronze. Karolina Wisniewska of Vancouver’s bronze in Women’s Super Combined today was another proud moment in a day marked with incredible athletic achievements by B.C. Paralympians.

“The Team Canada curling team’s gold medal win topped an incredible day for Team Canada and for our B.C. athletes. Congratulations to B.C. curlers Darryl Neighbour, Jim Armstrong, Sonja Gaudet, Ina Forrest and team mate Bruno Yizek.

“British Columbians and all Canadians are proud of the incredible performance of these talented athletes and every single one of the Team Canada members. Through their skill, courage and sheer determination, they have exemplified the qualities all of us strive to embody.”
