Long weekend enforcement successful in Northeast

DAWSON CREEK – Natural resource officers from the Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations visited a series of recreational spots in the Northeast region to help ensure that residents and visitors enjoyed a safe B.C. Day long weekend.

The officers travelled about 1,620 kilometres, patrolling Moose Lake, Bearhole Lake, Inga Lake, Parker Lake and Beaver Lake.

The officers spoke with over 50 members of the public throughout the weekend and handed out information on bear awareness, campfire regulations and recreation site use. The vast majority of people were co-operative and were complying with campfire and fishing regulations.

Ignoring B.C.’s fire regulations can result in fine of up to $345. Anyone who causes a wildfire through arson or recklessness can be fined up to $1 million and/or spend up to three years in prison.
