BC Coroners Service announces delay of Sweatman inquest
VICTORIA – The BC Coroners Service has announced that a planned inquest into the death of Sheilah Lorraine Sweatman has been postponed.
The inquest was scheduled to begin on June 4, 2012, in Nelson. However, a delay has been found to be necessary to ensure availability of all required witnesses as well as counsel for parties with standing.
Ms. Sweatman, aged 29, was performing a recovery operation with the Swift Water Rescue division within the Nelson Search and Rescue unit when she died in Creston on June 29, 2011.
Efforts will be made to re-schedule the inquest as soon as possible.
An inquest is a formal process that allows for public presentation of evidence relating to a death.
