BC Coroners Service confirms identities of pool drowning victims

 

SURREY – The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a child and grandmother who drowned in a tragic accident at an outdoor pool in Surrey on July 8, 2012.

 

The deceased are Ivan Yousif, aged one year, eight months and his grandmother Ms. Warina Nissan, aged 51 years. Both were residents of Surrey.

 

Ivan and his grandmother were observed unconscious in the pool by passers-by. The victims were pulled from the water and taken to Royal Columbia Hospital.

 

Despite extensive resuscitation efforts, emergency workers confirmed Ivan deceased at 22:19. His grandmother, Ms. Nissan, remained in critical condition in the intensive care unit at the hospital and sadly was pronounced deceased at noon on the following day.

 

The BC Coroners Service is continuing investigations.

 

The families of the deceased have been notified of their deaths. On behalf of the families, the BC Coroners Service asks that the media respect their privacy at this difficult time.

 

The BC Coroners Service offers its condolences to the families and friends of the deceased under these tragic circumstances.
