B.C. Coroners Service identifies landslide victims

 

VICTORIA – The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identities of the two people whose bodies were recovered following the Johnsons Landing mudslide.

 

The male recovered on July 15 is confirmed to be Valentine Webber, aged 60. The young woman recovered the next day is confirmed to be his daughter, Diana, aged 22. Both were residents of Johnsons Landing.

 

The identities were confirmed through visual and dental examination.

 

Mr. Webber and his daughter were two of four persons reported missing after a huge mudslide in Johnsons Landing on the morning of July 12.

 

After six full days of intensive searching, the bodies of Diana’s younger sister, Rachel, aged 17, and of German national Petra Frehse, aged 64, were not found.

 

The BC Coroners Service is continuing to assess the possibility of resuming the search for them.

 

The BC Coroners Service again expresses its condolences to the family and friends of Mr. and Ms. Webber, and its appreciation to the 22 groups and agencies that helped in the recovery efforts and to the whole community of Kaslo for its support.
