Statement from Premier Christy Clark and Justice Minister Shirley Bond:

“I was saddened to be advised that the mission at Johnsons Landing has now been re-classified as a recovery. At times like these, it is difficult to give up hoping for a miracle,” said Premier Clark.

“Communities and governments have provided every possible response to this disaster, and nature has conspired against us in many ways, even as work continues on the site.

“To the family and friends of Petra Frehse and Diana, Rachel and Valentine Webber, I extend my condolences. And to the residents of Johnsons Landing, I pledge government’s ongoing support as your community heals.

“Like all British Columbians, I am thankful for the efforts of everyone on the ground – our dedicated search and rescue personnel, police and local and provincial civil servants,” said Bond. “The more than 70 people who responded to this tragedy acted with professionalism and a passion for reaching a different outcome.

“The chief coroner now has responsibility for leading a recovery assessment at the site, and government will ensure resources are available so that operations can be conducted efficiently and respectfully.”
