Evergreen Line tender to prepare for rail track relocation

 

COQUITLAM – The Evergreen Line rapid transit project is continuing to move forward with a tender posted for work to prepare for the relocation of Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) tracks in Port Moody.

 

The tracks will be relocated to accommodate a portion of the Evergreen Line guideway adjacent to Clarke Street from Queens Street to Mary Street.

 

The contract is expected to be awarded in the summer, with work starting shortly after and running until early 2013.

 

The work includes relocation of utilities, realignment of Columbia Street adjacent to the tracks and construction of a gravel base for the relocated tracks. CPR will perform the final track construction and relocations in early 2013. Rail service is expected to continue without major interruption.

 

The relocation of the CPR tracks is part of a series of early construction works for the Evergreen Line. Early construction work lays the groundwork for major construction and will help keep the construction schedule on track.

 

The Province will select a primary contractor to undertake the major construction this summer. The Evergreen Line will open in late summer of 2016 providing rapid transit for the first time to the communities of Coquitlam and Port Moody, as well as the students of Douglas College.

 

Construction will create 8,000 direct and indirect jobs.
