GLEN CLARK CONFLICT REPORT, COSTS RELEASED

VICTORIA – The conflict of interest commissioner’s report on former B.C. premier Glen Clark was tabled in the legislature today by Attorney General Geoff Plant.

 

            H.A.D. Oliver’s report into whether Clark breached the Conflict of Interest Act in connection with the granting of approval-in-principle of a gaming licence for the North Burnaby Inn is dated Jan. 25, 2001. It was released after all the appeal periods relating to the legal case involving Clark and Dimitrios Pilarinos expired on Monday.

 

            Related documents also released today are:

• Glen Clark’s indemnity for legal fees for both the criminal investigation and the conflict of interest inquiry, granted by the former government in March 1999.
• A letter from the conflict of interest commissioner (also dated Jan. 25, 2001) containing recommendations on whether Clark should pay his legal fees for the conflict of interest inquiry. The government has accepted the commissioner’s recommendation that Clark pay half of those legal fees.

 

            The government has also released the legal costs of both the conflict of interest inquiry and the subsequent trial. These are:

• Cost of Clark’s legal advice and representation in the conflict matter: $107,174 (as of July 19, 2002).
• Cost of Clark’s legal advice and representation in the criminal matter: $1,299,142 (as of July 19, 2002).
• Estimated special prosecution costs for the Clark and Pilarinos trial: $1,517,344.
