The following organizations are receiving funding from Forestry Innovation Investment’s International Marketing and Product Development Programs. The projects are public-private partnerships with funding from FII, the federal government and industry.
British Columbia Institute of Technology - $169,870 · Design and deliver training programs and technology transfer for China’s emerging wood-frame construction industry.
BC Wood Specialties Group - $1,237,950 · Expand and diversify the distribution of B.C. value-added wood products. · Help small and mid-sized B.C. wood products manufacturers expand markets in Japan. · Expand and promote B.C. wood and value-added industries through trade events, promotional activities and market research. · Increase sales of B.C. value-added wood products to Europe, including development of niche markets. · Increase the sales of BC value-added wood products in India by raising awareness among architects, designers, developers, retailers, builders, distributors and consumers.
Canadian Forest Products Ltd. - $455,091 · Investigate opportunities to recover the highest value from B.C. subalpine fir. · Continue studies of white spruce, lodgepole pine and subalpine fir species, focusing on a modified softwood-flooring product. · Evaluate adhesive systems and formulations for butt jointing random length spruce-pine-fir lumber for non-structural laminated product applications, such as door and window components.
Canadian Plywood Association - $318,036 · Expand market knowledge and analyze new opportunities for B.C. plywood such as bus floors, formwork and wood-frame construction. · Host technical seminars in the United Kingdom and conduct market research and promotional activities in several European countries. · Respond to new product marking requirements and maintain uninterrupted access to the European Union market for B.C. plywood. · Maintain the position of B.C. plywood as a high-performance panel product and to identify niche market opportunities.

Coast Forest Lumber Association - $835,432 · Reposition hemlock as a superior structural building product under the brand identity of Canada Tsuga. · Provide technical support and documentation to enhance acceptance of coast species in Japanese codes and standards. · Launch market development activities, including studies to identify barriers and opportunities.
Council of Forest Industries - $1,205,770 · Pursue opportunities for wood in traditional structures and other applications in Taiwan. · Reposition Canadian National Lumber Grading Authority-graded lumber by securing stress class assignments to the MGP grade system used in Australia. · Achieve fireproof ratings for wood construction, opening the market to larger buildings. · Continue work on code development, wood-frame construction and wood product acceptance. · SPF Group - Promote the benefits of two-by-four house construction and increase the market share of wood-frame construction in the low-rise residential market.
Engineered Wood Association (APA) - $77,989 · Promote benefits of B.C. oriented strandboard and glued-laminated timber for home construction in Japan.
Forintek Canada Corp. - $1,291,650 · Develop a viable market for B.C. and Canadian wood products including a system of wood product standards and a means of conformity assessment to support a national wood frame construction code in China. · Arrange technology transfer to help B.C. industry improve its competitiveness. · Work with manufacturers to produce prototypes using non-traditional species and study consumer acceptance of these products.
University College of the Cariboo - $175,000 · Explore current furniture market demands and trends in the western United States.
Western Red Cedar Lumber Association - $1,566,763 · Promote the benefits of cedar over substitute products such as vinyl. · Increase awareness of the benefits of cedar and manage potential market access issues (on behalf of the Western Red Cedar Export Association).
Wood Promotion Network - $800,000 · Reinforce and improve consumer and trade opinions about the benefits of wood construction.
The Wood Panel Bureau - $77,647 · Promote B.C. wood products such as medium density fibreboard, particleboard, hardboard and oriented-strandboard. · Promote wood panel products and educate Japanese building code officials about the performance of B.C./Canadian wood panel products. · Investigate the market for wood-based panels.
Westland Television (Back on Track Productions) - $200,000 · Deliver a set of television programs to increase knowledge about the role of the forest sector in B.C. and encourage investment.
