An external advisory committee was appointed in September 2001 to monitor and provide advice to the government on its progress in resolution of children’s mental health issues. The committee made recommendations to the government and assisted in the development of the plan.
A consultation process was conducted across the province. Representatives from aboriginal communities, ethnocultural organizations, child and youth serving agencies, related ministries, clients and their families, researchers, regional health authorities, educators, health care practitioners and the public participated. It involved distribution of the Directions in Planning document and 712 questionnaires; focus groups; teleconferences and individual interviews. The resulting data was analysed and incorporated in the development of the plan.
