VICTORIA – Adult Income Assistance clients are now covered for routine eye exams as part of a new optical program.
The optical program will provide for one routine eye exam every two years with an optometrist or ophthalmologist effective July 1, 2003 onwards. Coverage is provided for all income assistance recipients between the ages of 19 and 64. Adults over the age of 65 and children of parents receiving income assistance continue to receive basic eye exam coverage through MSP.
This program is in addition to the basic eyeglasses coverage for clients receiving income assistance. Medically necessary eye exams also continue to be covered through MSP as a basic health benefit for all clients on income assistance.
To access the optical program, clients present their MSP care cards to their eye care professional for verification of eligibility.
