B.C. STUDENT LOAN FORGIVENESS PROGRAM EXPANSION

 


·          B.C.’s unique student loan forgiveness program is being expanded to include students who graduate on or after Dec. 1, 2004, in speech pathology, audiology, occupational therapy and physiotherapy.

 

·          Graduates make neither principal nor interest payments on their B.C. student loans while they are participating in the loan forgiveness program.

 

·          Applicants can graduate from any designated university in Canada and be eligible for loan forgiveness as long as they have a B.C. student loan.

 

·          Graduates in speech language pathology, audiology, occupational therapy or physiotherapy must be employees of, or contracted with, the Ministry of Education, a B.C. school district, the Ministry of Children and Family Development, the Ministry of Health, a public health-care facility, or a B.C. regional health authority to take part in the program.

 

·          Application forms are available:

§         In PDF format at www.bcsap.bc.ca by Jan. 14, 2005.

§         Through the mail by contacting the loan remission section of the student services branch at 250 387-6100, 604 660-2610 (Lower Mainland) or 1-800 561-1818 (toll free in Canada).

 

·          The loan forgiveness program has been in place for graduates from accredited schools in nursing (including licensed practical nursing), and medical, midwifery and pharmacy schools since Aug. 1, 2000.
