SPARWOOD – Four ministries have
come together in Sparwood to provide a better, more convenient way to access
provincial government services, East Kootenay MLA Bill Bennett announced today. “This is a move that will benefit the people of Sparwood and Elkford by giving them convenient, more cost-effective access to government and I commend the Cross Ministry Work Team here for making this happen,” Bennett said. “Savings will be achieved by sharing the same building and using the same technology resources, but most importantly, this is a made-in-Sparwood solution that will benefit the people of the Elk Valley.”
The new Service BC Centre brings together the ministries of Management Services, Human Resources, Public Safety and Solicitor General and Children and Family Development, allowing users to apply for everything from employment assistance to a safe boating permit, make payments to their medical services plan, pay property and consumer tax, or simply access a wide range of government information and services available online at the Community Access Terminal.
Service BC Centres are just one of the made-in-B.C. solutions that give residents better access to government services. Sharing office space, supplies, equipment and staff typically results in more cost-effective service, but these solutions are only a part of the work being done.
Cross-ministry work teams in 57
communities are also looking at ways to integrate and streamline participating
ministries’ operations and create a central source of information about
services and programs. Where practical, they are also exploring partnership
opportunities with other public sector or local community organizations, so
communities can experience even more benefits locally. -30- Download a high-resolution photo of MLA Bennett at: http://mla2.governmentcaucus.bc.ca/media/Bennett_600.jpg online.
