HR/PAYROLL CONTRACT OPENS DOORS FOR EMPLOYEES, BUSINESS

VICTORIA – The provincial government has signed a contract with TELUS Sourcing Solutions (TSS), a Canadian company, to deliver its corporate HR/payroll systems and services, Management Services Minister Joyce Murray and Stephen Bayliffe, vice-president and general manager of TSS announced today.

“As a government, we committed to being responsible, accountable managers of public resources and tax dollars,” said Murray. “Moving these administrative operations to the private sector lets government focus on its core business. It also allows us to benefit from the expertise, infrastructure and marketing capabilities of TSS to deliver these internal services better and more cost-effectively.”

The 10-year, $133 million partnership is one of several key projects that will use the private sector to transform and improve government’s service delivery when it makes business sense to do so. The Province expects to realize savings in excess of $30 million over the life of the contract. Current employees have been offered jobs with TSS, and will have access to a wider range of training and career development opportunities with the new company. The BCGEU will be the successor union and benefits and provisions presently offered by the Province will transfer with employees.

“We are excited to be partnering with the Government of B.C. on this alternative service delivery project and are committed to providing unparalleled innovation, technology development and human resource expertise,” said Bayliffe.

Formed in 2003, TSS is a wholly owned subsidiary of TELUS Corporation, with its head office in Vancouver. TSS offers human resource, payroll and other business solutions to public sector organizations across Canada, and will establish a Centre of Excellence in Victoria. As a result of its partnership with the Province, TSS will have an opportunity to expand its business services to B.C.’s broader public sector. TSS will adhere to all B.C. statutes and regulations related to the protection of privacy and personal information.
